Housing Complex in the Federal Capital
Housing Complex in the Federal Capital
Buenos Aires, Argentina
1972 0 m²In this 300-unit housing project, strongly reminiscent of the earlier Rioja development, 10 interlocking and connected 11-story towers occupy an entire city block. Their small footprints and elevated connections give rise to extensive public spaces, both sheltered and unsheltered, at the base of the buildings. Most of the space within the massive bridges that link the towers is taken up by housing units; these are accessible from the base of each tower through a vertical core of elevators and stairs serving the four apartments opening off it on each floor. Horizontal communication above grade is made possible by the open pedestrian spans that replace the residential bridges on the fifth- and ninth-floor levels. These concourse levels, which periodically open onto small terraces, connect through the central cores and are thus accessible to all of the tenants in the complex.
